On Feb 17, 2012 I got call from Melissa asking me to get in the car and hurry down to the lower pond. She said for me to get my camera and hurry up and that there was a bald eagle on the pond. I rushed and grabbed the camera bag and headed out the door. I decided to go down Emerald Place to see if I could see the eagle as I approached the lake. As I turned onto Emerald Place (map below) I could see the majestic bird on the thinning ice. I quickly pulled the car over and grabbed the camera. Leaving the car running I jumped out and headed to the tree. I was shooting with rather shoddy 70-300mm f4.6-5.6 non-IS lens. This usually is a lens I need maintain still for but this time I did not have time. I switched the camera to TV priority in order to make sure hand shake was not factor and I started popping off pictures like a hunter shooting of rounds from an automatic run. I quickly looked at what I had taken and quick got back into the car to go down to the pond's pull off on Ferry St. In this short time (15 seconds of travel) the majestic bird took flight and migrated to the other side of the pond. It was clear he only wanted me to get his good side. So enjoy the few pictures I was able to take.
