For those of you who don't know it is 5 weeks until I graduate from college. It sounds weird to say considering I should have done this event 14 year ago but I did not. I originally went to schoot at University of Hartford and then various local and community installations after that. In 2007 I decided, with help from my employer, it was time to make this happen. I went back and chose University of Phoenix off the recommendation of my current boss. As a technologist the online style of study was right up my alley. I finished my Associates Degree in Business in 2009. I started my bachelors just few short months later and after a break or two I close to finish line. So why blog about it. Well there are pluses and minuses to what I did. When I first went to school, early 90's, I wanted to go for computers. I quickly found out that I was far ahead of my professors and the other student. [Don't mean to toot a horn there]. After attempting several degrees that I thought would interested me I decided to leave school and get a full time job. This to me, looking back now, was one of the lowest times in my life. I had felt I disappointed by parents and family. My father a college grad and successful business man was who I looked up to. Starting as an adult I was no where his caliber. I had tons of ground to make up. I went on way traveling down a dark road without a light until I stumbled across Big Y. This company took a chance on a lost kid and before I knew it I was heading back right on the road. With work mentors in front of me and father voice and advice guiding me I forged forward in my career without a degree. Let me tell it was not easy. I always had the threat of college grad taking my promotion and my future away from me. After a few speed bumps in my personal life I decided it was time to go back, here is the plus. At this time in my life I had learned all I wanted to learn about technology. It was time to learn what would carry me through the rest of my career, something exciting. Business Management. See to me this is a huge plus. I am the type of person that excels at something I am interested. Those who know me I work and work and work until it is right. It was time to get it right, for me, my parents, for my father, my girlfriend, and for my future. Like I stated I started in 2007 and now early in 2012 (roughly 5 years later) I will have my 4 year degree. So it was as close as you can come to being a fulltime student and fulltime employee. As I start this class I take some time for reflection of how I got here and those people who never gave up on me and never lost faith and owe them a huge thanks. This degree is just as much of theirs as it is mine. Without them I would not even be close to where I am today. Thanks for all of your support and never giving up faith. See ya in 5 weeks!
